3. Teaching staff and functions

There are several teaching staff involved in this course:

  • Teaching staff responsible for the course (coordination of the University Practicum). The University has, for each master’s specialty, a professor or a team of professors who coordinate the practical training. This teacher is responsible for designing the training proposal for the course, and also for establishing the assessment criteria and procedures. Likewise, they coordinate the teaching team that tutors the trainee teachers at the university in the development of the teaching task and ensure the proper functioning of the course in its academic dimension. In addition, they are part of the Practical Training Committee, in charge of managing the relationships established between the three parties involved in the practical training: the tutoring of the university’s practical training, the studentship, and the educational institution’s mentorship.
  • The Practicum professor (tutoring of the practical training of the university). Practicum professors are responsible for monitoring and evaluating individual student work during the practical training. Professors design the tasks that the students have to carry out during the Practicum and guide them in the development of the different activities that they have to carry out in the virtual classroom. Professors also maintain direct contact with the educational institution’s mentor throughout the different phases of the Practicum to guarantee the coherence and connection of the work the students do in the educational institution with the activities in the virtual classroom. Likewise, professors ensure that the work plan established at the beginning of the practical training is carried out correctly, and provides the educational institution’s mentor with the guidelines and instruments to assess the students at the educational institution. Communication between the teaching staff of the Practicum and the students occurs essentially virtually and asynchronously, through the course’s virtual classroom spaces.
  • Coordination of the educational institution’s Practicum. The coordination of the educational institution’s Practicum supervises the practical training of all the students who are currently in the educational institution, and ensures that the students and the mentor teachers fulfill their tasks. It is also responsible for hosting students in practical training; presenting the educational project and the management and organization of the educational institution, and providing the necessary documents.
  • Mentorship of the educational institution’s Practicum. The teaching staff of the educational institution, who are specialists in the subject, are responsible for accompanying the training process of the trainee teachers while they are at the educational institution, and for supervising and coordinating their training activities. At the beginning of the practical training, they specify the work plan and the practical training schedule with the students. These documents must be validated by the university’s professor. They also coordinate with the Practicum professor to effectively monitor and evaluate the work developed by the students during the practical training period.
